Polling for PS-127 by-election underways amid violence

KARACHI: Polling for by-election on PS-127 is under amid incidents of violence in different areas of the constituency wherein Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H) workers clashed with each others.      

Polling started at 8:00 am which will continue till 5:00 pm without any break. Tension gripped the area amid armed clashes between the workers of MQM and MQM-H who exchanged fire. In Malir’s Urdunagar area, MQM and MQM-H workers came face to face who resorted to sloganeering against each others. Later armed clashes broke out. Two person were injured as a result of the violence.  Police and Rangers rushed to the spot and dispersed supporters of both the groups. In Jaffer Tayar Society, Malir unknown men uprooted an MQM election camp. Violence was also reported from Shadman area, where two groups attacked each others with bricks and stones.

Malir police arrested seven MQM-H men when they took out a rally in Khokhrapar area. Police also seized 11 motorcycles.

Meanwhile, Deputy Director General Rangers Brigadier Azhar visited Malir and Khokhrapar areas to inspect security arrangements for peaceful by-election.

It is to be mentioned here that PS-127 fell vacant when MQM MPA from the constituency Ashfaq Mangi resigned to join PSP.
