WEB DESK: Cristiano Ronaldo has announced he will retire from international football after the November break, ending a 23-year career with Portugal.
The 41-year-old said he would “hand back the number 7 shirt” in a video announcement. “It was not an easy decision,” he said, adding that representing Portugal had been an honour.
Ronaldo, who captained the team to victory at Euro 2016 and the 2019 and 2025 Nations League titles, finishes as Portugal’s record appearance-maker and top scorer, with 234 caps and 146 goals. He also shares the record for appearances at six global tournaments.
Portugal’s football federation thanked Ronaldo, calling him an inspiring leader and a symbol of the national team. The forward said Portugal would always be part of him.
