PPP contacts PTI, MWM for formation of govt in Gilgit-Baltistan

KARACHI: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has reached out to the leadership of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to form a government in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).

Sources indicate that PPP aims to collaborate with opposition parties in the federal assembly to establish a government in GB, and discussions and decisions regarding this coalition are expected to take place within the next 24 hours.

Additionally, two more independent candidates supported by PTI have won seats in GB, and according to reports, opposition parties collectively hold five votes when including women and technocrat members.

Meanwhile, based on results from 22 out of 24 constituencies in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, the PPP has secured 10 seats, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has five, and four independent candidates have joined the Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), bringing its tally to four seats. The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has managed to win one seat.

It is noteworthy that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has extended an invitation to the PPP to form the government in GB, while the PML-N has decided to remain in opposition in the region.
