Karachi (November 17, 2017): Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Dr Asim Hussain has stepped down as party’s Karachi division president due to health issues
According to the details, the PPP leader and accused of corruption charges Dr Asim has told the party that he would not further keep the party slot as Karachi Division president, however he ensures that he would continue work for the party as a worker.
Dr Asim contacted to party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and apprised him regarding his decision.
While explaining the reason for the decision, Dr Asim told PPP Co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari that he won’t be able to take up the responsibilities associated with the post as he has to travel abroad for a surgery.

He added that he will continue working for the party as a worker. Dr Asim was appointed as the president of party’s Karachi division last year in November.
In response to his decision, PPP announced that Dr Asim will be given new and important responsibilities.
Dr Asim’s resignation letter was accepted by PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
“Dr Asim has done a lot for the party,” said Bilawal, adding that Dr Asim took up the role despite health issues.
Dr Asim will be given new responsibilities once he returns after undergoing surgery, added Bilawal.
Earlier, Counsel of Dr Asim Hussain, former Petroleum Minister and PPP leader wrote letters to different agencies and departments for the removal of Dr Asim’s name from Exit Control List (ECL) as per Supreme Court ordered yesterday.
In the letters, the counsel stated that Supreme Court has allowed Dr Asim to go abroad. “Dr Asim wanted to ago abroad for treatment so his name should be removed from ECL,” he urged.
On November 16, the Supreme Court of Pakistan directed the government to remove the name of Dr Asim Hussain from the Exit Control List (ECL) allowing him to travel abroad for treatment.
A three members bench of the apex court headed by Justice Mushir Alam heard Dr Asim’s petition seeking to remove his name from ECL so that he can be able to travel aboard.

PPP Karachi chief and former Petroleum Minister Dr Asim is facing three cases: two of corruption during his stint in the last federal government and one of facilitating terrorists at his hospital.
On August 29, Dr Asim was allowed to leave for London for a back surgery and ordered to submit a surety bond of Rs6 million.
Khosa submitted that treatment of his client was not completed but his name was again put on ECL. He pleaded the court to order the government to remove the name of his client.
The court while accepting the petition ordered the Interior Ministry to remove Dr Asim name from ECL.
Asim was placed on the ECL in November 2015. He subsequently petitioned the courts to have his name removed.
Dr Hussain, a close aide of former president and PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, faces several charges including corruption references filed by NAB of Rs 479 billion. He is also alleged to have provided treatment and protection to terrorists at a hospital owned by him.
