ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party has decided to nominate Yousaf Raza Gilani for Chairman Senate.
After at least six rounds of talks, both sides reached a consensus and now party stalwarts are being considered for key roles.
Under the new understanding, PPP is getting Senate chairman’s slot and Yousaf Raza Gillani is favourite for the role. The former premier is already part of the upper house and his tenure will last another three years.
After taking the coveted slot, Yousaf Gillani will vacate his NA-148 seat that he clinched in the February 8 polls.
In recently held polls, Gillani bagged 67,326 votes to beat PTI-backed Taimur Malik, who received 67,033 votes. It was reported that Gillani’s son will run for election on his vacated seat. His other children Ali Musa and Abdul Qadir have already bagged from NA-151 and 152
