ISLAMABAD: PPP and PML-N reject tax amendment ordinance, PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal says the money bill cannot be imposed without the approval of the National Assembly, while PPP leader Naveed Qamar said that never before have such heavy tax ordinances been enacted.

A meeting of the Standing Committee on Finance was held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Faizullah Kamuka. The meeting reviewed the SBP Amendment Bill 2021 and Tax Amendment Ordinance. Finance Secretary Kamran Ali Afzal told the committee that the SBP Amendment Bill was not introduced in the National Assembly.

Ahsan Iqbal said that ordinances are being issued by bypassing the parliament. Parliamentary privileges are being violated. It is feared that the money bill will be introduced in the National Assembly. The budget will be presented through a presidential ordinance. Taxes of Rs. 700 billion are being imposed without the approval of the National Assembly. If a mistake has been made in the past, it will have to be stopped.

PPP’s Naveed Qamar said that history was not enacted by such a heavy tax ordinance. The IMF board should be asked whether they enforce these ordinances from their countries.
