PPP’s Sarfraz Bugti takes oath as Balochistan Chief Minister

QUETTA: Pakistan People’s Party leader Mir Sarfaraz Bugti has been elected as the Chief Minister of Balochistan.

PPP leader Mir Sarfaraz Bugti has been elected as the chief minister of Balochistan, with no opposition candidates contesting against him. The election took place at the Balochistan Assembly.

Bugti was the sole nominee for the position of leader of the House. Members of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam and the National Party refrained from participating in the poll, while JUI members were also notably absent from the session. Out of the 42 members present, all voted in favour of Sarfaraz Bugti, surpassing the simple majority requirement of 33 votes needed for the Leader of the House.

Government officials had announced that Balochistan Governor Abdul Wali Kakar would administer the oath of office to Bugti at the Governor House in Quetta. The ceremony is scheduled to be attended by members of the National and provincial assemblies, along with senior government officials. Additionally, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari is also expected to participate in the oath-taking ceremony
