FIFA has announced preliminary schedule for the World Cup 2026, the opening match will be at the Azteca Stadium Maxime, 48 teams will participate in the tournament for the first time and a total of twenty-four matches will be played at sixteen venues from June 11 to July 19.
The 48-team FIFA World Cup will be held from June 11 to July 19 in the United States, Mexico and Canada. Sixteen venues of the three host countries will host a total of fourteen matches. Of which seventy-eight matches will be played in the United States, while thirteen will be played in Mexico and Canada. The opening match will take place on June 11 at Azteca Stadium in New Mexico. Azteca Stadium will be the only venue in the world to host three World Cup matches. Earlier, the finals of 2019 and 2016 have been played in the stadium.
The semi-finals will be held in Texas and Dallas. The final will be played at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. According to the format of the World Cup 2026, the participating forty-eight teams will be divided into twelve groups. The top two teams and eight best third-placed teams from each group will qualify for the knockout rounds.
