ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has granted approval for the appointment of the Chief of Defence Forces.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had sent the summary for the appointment of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir as Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces to the President’s Office, which has now been approved.

Under the new appointment, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir will serve as both the Chief of Army Staff and the Chief of Defence Forces, with the tenure lasting for five years.This makes Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir the first person to hold the position of Chief of Defence Forces in Pakistan.

Additionally, approval has been granted for a two-year extension in the tenure of Air Chief Marshal Zahid Ahmed Babar Sadoo, which will be applicable after his current five-year term concludes in March 2026.
