President Asif Ali Zardari appointed Nehal Hashmi as Sindh governor

ISLAMABAD: President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, has approved the appointment of Nehal Hashmi as the Governor of Sindh. The President made this decision following the Prime Minister’s advice.

President Zardari congratulated Nehal Hashmi on his appointment as Governor of Sindh and expressed best wishes for his tenure.

Brief Overview of Nehal Hashmi’s Political Career

Hailing from Karachi, Nehal Hashmi has been associated with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for several decades. He served as a legal advisor to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from 1997 to 1999. In 2012, he took on the role of President of PML-N in Karachi, and in August 2014, he was appointed General Secretary of the party’s Sindh chapter.

In 2015, Nehal Hashmi was elected as a Senator representing Punjab, as a candidate from PML-N. He was recently chosen for the position of Governor of Sindh.

Hashmi was expelled from PML-N in 2017 following a controversial statement related to the Panama Papers case, but his party membership was reinstated in 2021.
