ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the appointment of Justice Aminuddin Khan as the first Chief Justice of the newly established Federal Constitutional Court.
The President has approved Justice Aminuddin Khan’s appointment as Chief Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court. Justice Aminuddin Khan will be the first Chief Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court. The appointment was approved on the Prime Minister’s advice. Previously, Justice
Aminuddin Khan headed the Constitutional Bench and was set to retire at the end of this month. He was scheduled to retire on November 30. The 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill has been passed by both houses and has become part of the Constitution upon the President’s signature. Under the amended Article 176, the current Chief Justice Yaqoob Aftab will be referred to as the Chief Justice of Pakistan until his term ends.
Amendments to Article 255(2) pertain to the appointment of the Chief Justice of Pakistan after the current term. The senior-most Chief Justice of the Supreme Court or the Federal Constitutional Court will serve as the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
