President Zardari praises US-Iran ceasefire, stresses need for regional stability

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has expressed his support for the recent ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, calling it a crucial step toward fostering dialogue and creating a more stable regional climate.

In a statement, he described the development as a timely move that opens the door for diplomatic engagement, patience, and the potential for a more secure environment in the region. Zardari emphasized that Pakistan has long prioritized de-escalation, acting in good faith to promote peace for the benefit of the wider region and humanity as a whole, especially when the world was on the brink of a major crisis.

He underscored that peace is vital for maintaining security, economic growth, and the well-being of populations across interconnected nations. Pakistan’s leadership, he said, has consistently demonstrated wisdom, determination, and a firm dedication to fostering peace.

The President lauded Iran and the United States for choosing dialogue over conflict and acknowledged the efforts of their leadership teams in Washington and Tehran, as well as regional actors, especially Gulf countries like Saudi Arabia, in creating conditions conducive to de-escalation.

Zardari also praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Defence Forces, Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and Foreign Minister Senator

Mohammad Ishaq Dar for their diplomatic initiatives and leadership in promoting peace efforts.

He highlighted the importance of political will, pragmatism, and flexibility in achieving such breakthroughs and expressed gratitude to allied countries—China, Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Russia for their constructive role in encouraging dialogue during this challenging period.

The former President noted that the global community’s prayers and goodwill reflect a shared hope for peace and stability. He urged that this collective voice should continue to inspire responsible decision-making by world leaders.

Zardari reiterated that the ceasefire provides a vital opportunity for the region to breathe, recover, and move away from the threat of wider conflict. He called for sustained diplomatic engagement, confidence-building measures, and a firm commitment to peaceful resolution, reaffirming Pakistan’s support for all efforts aimed at peace, stability, and mutual respect among nations.
