President Zardari signs off on domestic violence bill

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has enacted a groundbreaking domestic violence law, criminalizing physical abuse, intimidation, and threats of second marriage against a spouse. This legislation strengthens marital rights and offers protections for victims, ensuring penalties for emotional and physical harm.

The Domestic Violence (Amendment) Bill 2026 specifically targets threats of second marriage, assault, and harassment, providing legal recourse for affected spouses.

Additionally, the president approved six other reforms covering education, tax policies, export development, railway management, human rights, and trade regulation. These include amendments to the Danish School Authority, Income Tax, and Railway acts, among others.

All seven bills passed parliamentary approval and are now enforceable nationwide.
