LISBON: President Asif Ali Zardari met with Prince Rahim Aga Khan, the 50th Imam of the Ismaili community, expressed his condolences on the passing of Prince Karim Aga Khan.
The President conveyed heartfelt sympathy on behalf of the people and government of Pakistan. He stated that the entire nation is mourning the loss of a true friend and a great humanitarian figure.
President Zardari praised the late Aga Khan’s role in Pakistan’s social and economic development, noting that his visionary leadership had improved the lives of people in Pakistan and other regions of the world.
The President mentioned that he received the news of Aga Khan’s passing during his official visit to China. He said, “I have come to Lisbon to pay tribute to the late Aga Khan for his lifelong services to humanity. His contributions will always be remembered, and I hope that Prince Rahim Al-Husseini will continue his father’s mission of serving humanity.”
It is worth noting that Prince Karim Aga Khan passed away on February 4 at the age of 88. He died in Lisbon, Portugal, and was buried in Aswan, Egypt.
Born in 1936, Prince Karim Aga Khan had three sons: Rahim Aga Khan, Ali Muhammad Aga Khan, and Hussein Aga Khan, and a daughter, Zahra Aga Khan. He was born in Switzerland, spent his childhood in Nairobi, and graduated with a degree in Islamic History from Harvard.
Prince Karim Aga Khan was the 49th Imam of the Ismaili community, having assumed the position of leadership in 1957 at the age of 20.
Through the Aga Khan Development Network, Prince Karim Aga Khan initiated welfare efforts across various regions of the world. He was honored with the highest awards and honorary degrees from various countries and universities.
Prince Karim also made exemplary contributions to Pakistan’s development and was awarded the Nishan-e-Pakistan and Nishan-e-Imtiaz for his outstanding services.
