Presidnet signs Islamabad local govt ordinance into law

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari formally enacted the Islamabad Local Government Ordinance on Monday, marking its immediate implementation.

The ordinance outlines the creation of three town corporations within Islamabad, each corresponding to one of the three National Assembly constituencies.

Every town corporation will be governed by a mayor and supported by two deputy mayors.

The federal government will determine the number of union councils within these corporations. Each council will consist of nine general councillors and four seats reserved for specific purposes.

According to the provisions of the ordinance, these town corporations will operate with a tenure of four years.
