SARGODHA: A primary school teacher in Sargodha has been suspended for allegedly using social media to provoke colleagues against the government during duty hours.
The District Education Officer (DEO) of Sargodha took immediate action, suspending Asad Hayat, a teacher at Primary School Chak No. 5 Rakh Dharema, under the Peeda Act, 2006.
Hayat faces charges of spreading propaganda against state institutions and the current government, as well as misusing social media and the internet during official working hours. The DEO’s decision also includes a directive for the suspended teacher to report to the concerned office immediately for further proceedings.
This suspension comes after a series of actions against public servants for improper use of social media. In September, a show cause notice was issued to Abdul Karim, the Headmaster of the Government Special Education Center in Chichawatani, District Sahiwal, for making political remarks on WhatsApp. The notice, issued under Section 7(b) and Section 5(1)(a) of the Peeda Act, 2006, was a response to complaints about his statements potentially undermining the reputation of the Punjab government.
The action against Asad Hayat reflects the government’s strict stance on maintaining professionalism and neutrality among its employees, particularly in terms of social media conduct during work hours.
