Prime Minister approves additional funds for Gilgit-Baltistan from Budget 2025-26

ISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister has approved additional funds for Gilgit-Baltistan in the upcoming fiscal year’s budget, allocating a total of 3.7 billion rupees for development projects.

The federal government will provide funding for 18 key projects, including several hydroelectric power schemes, hospitals, roads, and basic infrastructure.

Specifically, an extra 350 million rupees has been agreed upon to support Gilgit-Baltistan. A direct allocation of 2.2 billion rupees has been set aside for development projects, which include hydroelectric power projects, road construction, and infrastructure development.

Key projects include a 20 MW hydro power plant, Darel Tangiar Expressway, Naltar Hydropower Project, and the expansion of hospitals in Skardu. Additionally, significant funds have been allocated for sewerage and grid improvements in Gilgit.

Furthermore, in the health sector, the federal government has announced funding for the establishment of a 50-bed heart disease hospital in Gilgit, medical and nursing colleges, and a 300-bed Mother and Child Hospital in Chilas.

Moreover, 600 million rupees have been allocated for water supply from Atabad Lake to Hanza, and 500 million rupees have been designated for upgrading the headquarters hospital in Gilgit.
