Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Condemns Israeli Attack on Qatar

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has vehemently denounced the unlawful and brutal bombing carried out by Israeli forces in Doha, which targeted a residential zone and put innocent civilians at risk.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he expressed heartfelt condolences and solidarity with Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Qatari royal family, and the people of Qatar during this challenging period.

Shehbaz Sharif described Israel’s actions as completely unjustifiable and a blatant breach of Qatar’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He warned that such acts of aggression are highly provocative and could threaten regional peace and stability. The Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for Qatar and the Palestinian people in the face of Israeli hostility.

On Tuesday, Israel launched an attack targeting Hamas leaders in Qatar, signaling an expansion of its military operations across the Middle East to include the Gulf nation, where Hamas maintains a political presence.  The strike occurred near Doha’s Legtifya petrol station, with thick black smoke billowing into the sky as emergency services, police, and government vehicles responded to the scene. Witnesses reported loud explosions echoing throughout Doha, with nearby residential complexes being heavily guarded by Qatar’s Emiri Guard since the Gaza conflict escalated.

Qatar’s authorities condemned the attack as “cowardly” and a “blatant breach of international law.” The country has played a key mediating role in ceasefire negotiations alongside Egypt, and there are concerns that this attack might undermine ongoing efforts to end the Gaza conflict and secure the release of hostages.
