Prime Minister strongly condemns Afghan forces firing in Chaman

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Nawaz Sharif on Friday strongly condemned Afghan borders police firing on an FC troop guarding a census team in Chaman area on Pak-Afghan border.

The Prime Minister while condemning the incident said that it was the responsibility of Afghan government to stop occurrence of such incidents in future.

He added that such incidents were against the efforts being made for peace and stability in the region. The Prime Minister expressed sympathies with the families of the victims and prayed for quick recovery of the injured.

It is to be mentioned here that at least nine people were killed and over 40 injured as Afghan border forces opened fire on security personnel guarding a census team in Chaman area early Friday.

The Afghan chargé d’affaires has been summoned by the Foreign Office (FO) and a demarche was handed over to him.

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) had earlier released a statement saying the Afghan Border Police opened fire on Frontier Corps (FC) personnel detailed for the security of a census team in Chaman, leaving one person dead and 18 injured. The death toll subsequently rose to nine.
