Islamabad (November 19, 2018): Prime Minister Imran Khan is chairing the meeting of the Council of Common Interests (CCI) in Islamabad today.

According to details, Chief Ministers of all four provinces, Department of Finance,  Federal Minister of Water Resources, Petroleum and Power Division are participating in the meeting today.

The issue of the less provision of water to Balochistan will come under discussion in the meeting. Moreover, the candidates in the meeting will review and inform the Premier regarding the progress over the orders given in previous CCI meetings.

Nonetheless, the meeting is also expected to give the approval for the release of final Census results without the audit of 5% blocks. Earlier on September 24, a meeting of the Council of Common Interests was held in Islamabad with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the chair.

The meeting deliberated on a seven-point agenda including the issues of energy and water.

Sources informed that a detailed discussion was held on the distribution between the centre and provinces post 18th amendment. According to the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination, the meeting discussed the import of Liquefied Natural Gas, launching a countrywide cleanliness drive and setting up a task force for streamlining regulatory functions.

The Petroleum, Exploration and Production Policy 2012 and matters pertaining to Workers Welfare Fund and Employees Old-Age Benefits Institution also came under discussion during the meeting.During the session, chief ministers also apprised the council of recommendations and issues. According to sources, Prime Minister Khan assured the chief ministers that the provinces would be taken into confidence on all important national matters.

“The nation will proposer from strong contact and harmony between the centre and provinces,” the prime minister was quoted as saying.Prime Minister Khan stressed on making provinces more autonomous and the need to make sure that the distribution of resources was transparent.

The prime minister also took the council into confidence on the new local government system and comprehensive reforms. The Ministry of Water Resources presented a summary on the allocation of 1,200 cusecs (650.5 MGD) additional water for Karachi City (K-IV project).

The resolution of energy problems of Balochistan, including enhancement of absorption energy, limited supply of water in Pat Feeder and Kirther Canals, also came under discussion.

Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mehmood Khan and Chief Minister Balochistan Jam Kamal Khan besides the Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Dr Fehmida Miraz and Minister for Finance Asad Umer attended the meeting.
