ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an advisory urging all mobile users to ensure their national identity cards (CNICs) are current and updated to avoid disruptions in mobile services.

In a recent social media message, the PTA emphasized its ongoing efforts to provide smooth and reliable telecommunications across Pakistan. The authority highlighted that users must renew their CNICs promptly to maintain uninterrupted access to their mobile connections.

PTA cautioned that SIM cards linked to expired or invalid CNICs, or registered under someone else’s name, could be deactivated without prior notice. To prevent any inconvenience, citizens are encouraged to renew their identity documents without delay.

This initiative demonstrates PTA’s dedication to safeguarding consumer rights and maintaining the integrity of the telecom system.Additionally, PTA reminded users about a free service designed to prevent accidental deduction of balances due to data usage. In a statement issued on March 19, 2026, from Islamabad, the authority explained that when data packages expire or are fully consumed, users might face unexpected charges at higher Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) rates.

To mitigate this, telecom providers offer a “Balance Saver” or PAYG blocking option, which automatically halts internet activity once the data limit is reached, helping users avoid unexpected costs.
