RAWALPINDI: Raja says a petition has been submitted to the trial court to gain permission for meeting the party leader in custody
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has declared that his party will hold a sit-in outside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail after being repeatedly denied permission to meet Imran Khan, the PTI leader and former Prime Minister, who is currently incarcerated.
Speaking to the media in Rawalpindi, Afridi stated, “We will stage a sit-in tonight. Members of parliament and assembly from our party are on their way to join us.” He added that he had traveled to Rawalpindi earlier in the day with the intention of meeting Imran Khan, but was refused entry.
“This is a serious matter concerning our leader,” Afridi emphasized. “We will not let this situation be ignored. Efforts are underway to intentionally worsen the circumstances.”
The KP chief minister called for family members and Imran Khan’s personal physician to be allowed access to him at Adiala Jail, citing concerns raised by PTI regarding the former premier’s health. This development comes shortly after Information Minister Attaullah Tarar confirmed that Imran Khan was briefly transferred to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) due to health concerns raised by his party.
In an exclusive interview with Geo News, Tarar explained that eye specialists examined Imran Khan at Adiala Jail and advised that he be moved to PIMS for further evaluation and treatment. Following the medical assessment, the former Prime Minister was taken to the hospital on Saturday night and later returned to jail with instructions from medical professionals.
Tarar reassured the public, stating that Imran’s vital signs remained stable and that his overall health was satisfactory throughout the procedure. “He is in good health,” the minister said. “All prisoners are provided with medical care and specialist treatment whenever necessary, in strict accordance with jail regulations.”
The minister’s comments follow reports from local media that Imran Khan was admitted to PIMS last Saturday for a medical procedure related to an eye condition, and was brought back to Adiala Jail the following day under tight security.
Meanwhile, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja announced that a petition has been filed in a trial court seeking permission to meet Imran Khan in detention. Expressing concern over reports about Khan’s health, Raja noted that Dr. Asim had examined Imran in jail a year ago and confirmed that he had no eye issues at that time. “A year has passed, and no one knows what has happened since,” he added.
