ISLAMABAD: Tehreek-e-Insaf has challenged 26th constitutional amendment in Supreme Court.
PTI filed a petition against 26th Amendment in the Supreme Court through lawyer Sameer Khosa, urging the amendment to be revoked.
The position adopted in the petition is that the Parliament cannot change the basic features of the Constitution, the independence of the judiciary is the main component of the Constitution and no amendment can be made against the independence of the judiciary, therefore the constitutional amendment is against the constitutional principle of separation of powers.
In its petition, Tehreek-e-Insaf has also requested to stop the Judicial Commission from appointing judges pending the decision on the 26th Constitutional Amendment.
