PTI clarifies stance on KP CM’s comments about Kalabagh dam

RAWALPINDI: Indicating possible internal disagreements, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) dissociated itself from recent statements made by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur regarding the Kalabagh Dam.

Addressing the media outside an Anti-Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja clarified that Gandapur’s remarks were his personal viewpoint and did not represent the official stance of the party.

He reiterated that both Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces have longstanding objections to the construction of the Kalabagh Dam.

“Any project opposed by two provinces cannot serve the national interest,” he stated, emphasizing that such projects require broad consensus and political unity among all involved parties before moving forward.

Previously, KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur expressed his firm support for building the Kalabagh Dam, urging the Sindh government to participate in dialogue to address the concerns related to the project.

The Kalabagh Dam, a proposed hydroelectric facility on the Indus River in Mianwali District, Punjab, has faced strong opposition from political factions in Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.Gandapur, speaking to journalists in Peshawar, underscored the importance of the dam for Pakistan’s future, describing it as the “cornerstone” of the country’s water and energy security.
