Islamabad (September 14, 2017): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has launched a bid to dethrone incumbent Opposition leader in the National Assembly Khurshid Shah and bring in its own nominee as leader of the opposition.
As Opposition Leader has important role in appointment of Chairman National Accountability Bureau and caretaker set-up to hold general elections, the PTI has started efforts to change the PPP’s Opposition Leader and bring in a new one.

For the purpose, it has stated contacting other opposition parties especially MQM which is the fourth largest party in the National Assembly and has 25 members.
PTI wants its Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi to replace Shah so that it has a say in key decision making process before the general elections scheduled for 2018.
Sources said that PTI had constituted a two-member committee to materialize the plan. They claimed that PTI leaders had met MQM leadership in recent past.
They added that MQM had rejected Sheikh Rashid name for Opposition leader. They said that MQM was ready to support Shah Mahmood for the covet post.
They added that if negotiations with the MQM succeeded, Qureshi would be next opposition leader.
The caretaker government is set up in consultation between the opposition and present government.
According to sources, the PTI has also established back door contact with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan.
PTI officials said if all the opposition parties unite against the Pakistan People’s Party then a new opposition leader can emerge in the Lower House of Parliament.
Sources said the PTI has started approaching different political parties in this regard.
It is pertinent to mention that in the National Assembly, MQM-P has 22 seats while the PTI holds 27 seats. The PPP has 47 seats in the house.
