ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has summoned an emergency meeting of its senior leadership after receiving a proposal from the government, conveyed through Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, to defuse the ongoing political confrontation over the party’s long march.
According to sources, Maulana Fazlur Rehman has stepped up efforts to facilitate dialogue between the government and PTI following a meeting with a government delegation.
The JUI-F chief subsequently contacted PTI leaders by telephone and communicated the government’s proposal, prompting the opposition party to convene an emergency consultation, sources said.
Sources said Fazlur Rehman had earlier advised the government to pursue negotiations and political reconciliation rather than consider measures such as governor’s rule or the imposition of an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Following his advice, the government requested the JUI-F leader to help mediate and find a political solution to the dispute, sources added.
A government delegation comprising Prime Minister’s Adviser Rana Sanaullah, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and Tariq Fazal Chaudhary had met Fazlur Rehman a day earlier to discuss the escalating situation.
PHC seeks response from KP CM
Separately, the Peshawar High Court has sought a response from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi over allegations that government resources were being used to facilitate political activities linked to the PTI long march.
The court issued a notice to the chief minister in response to a petition alleging that state machinery and resources were being utilised for political purposes.
The petitioner specifically alleged that Afridi used a government helicopter to travel to Lakki Marwat in connection with the long march.
The petition further maintained that the Peshawar High Court had barred the use of government resources for political activities in November 2025.
The court has now directed the KP chief minister to respond to the allegations raised in the petition.
