RAWALPINDI: Incarcerated leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have urged both the government and the party’s top leadership to begin negotiations in order to resolve the country’s ongoing political crisis.
PTI leaders Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Mian Mehmood ur Rasheed, Ejaz Chaudhry, and Omar Sarfraz Cheema have written an open letter from jail, calling for dialogue as the only viable way out of what they describe as a deepening national crisis.“We, the five undersigned leaders, support negotiations with the government because dialogue is the only path to overcome this grave crisis,” the letter states.
They emphasized the need for dialogue not only at the political level but also with the country’s powerful establishment. The letter further stressed that detained leaders should be included in any negotiations.“The responsibility to initiate talks lies with the government.
The process should begin in consultation with PTI founder Imran Khan,” the letter reads. “Blaming any side at the start of negotiations would sabotage the entire process, and the government would be held accountable for such a failure.”
The detained PTI leaders also stated that access to the party’s Patron-in-Chief (Imran Khan) must be made easier to form a negotiation committee and that these meetings should be held on a regular basis to ensure progress.
