Karachi: The Sindh government has announced public holiday in NA-249 Karachi for by-poll tomorrow.
The provincial government has issued notification for the holiday. As per the notification there will close holiday in Karachi west NA-249 to felicitates voters to cast their votes in the by-polls.
On the other hand Election commissioner Karachi Syed Nadeem Hyder has declared 92 polling stations as sensitive while 184 as extremely sensitive. The constituency has as many as 276 polling stations out of which 139 are joint polling stations. He apprised further that there are 76 polling stations for men and 61 for women. While numbers of polling booth are 796 out of which 458 for men and 338 for women.
The election commissioner regarding election arrangments in the NA-249 said that rangers and police patrolling will continue in the constituency. More than 2800 and 1100 rangers personnel will be deployed in the constituency. He informed that cctv cameras have been installed in the highly sensitive polling stations as well.
Regarding coronavirus SOPs he informed that masks and sanitizers are being provided to presiding officers including all officers.
It is pertinent to mention here that NA-249 vacated after PTI leader Faisal Vawda resignation while by-election in the constituency will be held tomorrow.
Tough fight expected among Pakistan Muslim Leage-Nawaz candidate Muftah Ismail, Pakistan Sarzameen Party (PSP) Chairman Syed Mustafa Kamal and the PTI candidate Amjad Afridi.
In the 2018 general elections PTI candidate Faisal Vawda had defeated President of Pakistan Muslim League -Nawaz (PML-N) Shahbaz Sharif by meagre margin of just approximately 800 votes.
Earlier, distribution of election material for by-polling on NA-49 has been started.The election material included ballot boxes, balot papers, nonremoveable ink, stationary. A heavy contingent of police and rangers are deployed for the distribution of the election material.
The election commission of Pakistan has issued instructions for the by-poll in NA-249 Karachi that presiding officers have been directed to keep open their mobile phone location while police and rangers will accompany presiding officers in the NA-249.
