LAHORE: An agreement has been reached between the government and opposition committees in the Punjab Assembly regarding the suspension and disqualification of 26 members.
The two sides concluded their meetings concerning the matter of suspending and disqualifying 26 members, during which an agreement was also reached to avoid the use of inappropriate language within the assembly.
Speaker of the Punjab Assembly, Mian Muhammad Ahmad Khan, congratulated the negotiating committees on their successful dialogue. He emphasized that members should refrain from using abusive language and noted that opposition has the right to protest, but within the confines of the constitution.
Punjab Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, told the media that an understanding had been reached between the government and opposition, and that the recent session was productive. He added that in future meetings, members would avoid obscene language and personal insults.
He further stated that it was agreed upon that the Leader of the Opposition’s speech in the assembly would be given due respect, and there would be no shouting or chanting slogans that could disturb the opposition leader. Additionally, no protests or slogans would be allowed during Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s speech.
Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman also mentioned that the suspended 26 members would be allowed to cast votes in the Senate elections, and their reinstatement would be announced by the Speaker himself.
The decisions taken by the Business Advisory Committee would be followed in future sessions, and the Ethics Committee would review any violations of the agreement to determine appropriate penalties
