Punjab Chief Minister launches community health inspectors program

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced that the provincial government is committed to proactive governance, prioritizing preventive healthcare to safeguard the health of the people.

During the inauguration of the Community Health Inspectors (CHI) program in Lahore today, she stated that soon, 55,000 trained inspectors will be deployed in the field to deliver healthcare services directly to households. She stressed that prevention is more effective than cure and that the government will conduct door-to-door visits to ensure timely medical assistance.

Maryam Nawaz emphasized that this initiative is transformative for Punjab’s healthcare system and highlighted the vital role women will play in it. She expressed confidence that when mothers, sisters, and daughters serve in the field, the province will see rapid progress. She referred to the inspectors as her “eyes, ears, and pride,” appreciating their dedication after months of intensive training.

The Chief Minister explained that these inspectors will develop digital health profiles for each household, perform basic diagnostic tests such as blood sugar levels, and administer essential injections. Patients requiring advanced treatment will be referred to hospitals.

She also mentioned that mobile clinics and field hospitals have already provided medical care to nearly 30 million residents across Punjab. Additionally, free medicines for cancer, heart conditions, diabetes, and hepatitis are being delivered directly to patients’ homes.

Maryam Nawaz highlighted ongoing healthcare expansion efforts, including the establishment of new cardiology institutes in Sargodha, Sahiwal, and Murree, along with a cath lab in Jhelum, with similar facilities planned for Jhang soon.
