Punjab CM Launches Honorarium Card Program for Mosque Imams

LAHORE: Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, announced that starting next month, mosque imams across the province will begin receiving their honorarium through a new card-based payment system. 

During a ceremony in Lahore dedicated to distributing these honorarium cards, she stated that approximately 70,000 registered mosque imams will be entitled to a monthly stipend of Rs25,000. The government has allocated around Rs20 billion annually to sustain this program.

Maryam Nawaz further informed that bank accounts for the imams have already been established at the Bank of Punjab to facilitate smooth payments. She also mentioned that Punjab is home to over 80,000 mosques from various sects, with nearly 70,000 registration forms already submitted.

The Chief Minister emphasized the crucial role that mosque imams play in addressing social and religious issues within communities. She reaffirmed the government’s dedication to providing them with ongoing support and recognition for their vital contributions.
