Punjab govt imposed Section 144 across Punjab

LAHORE: The government of Punjab has imposed section 144 across Punjab and banned over protest, rallies and sit-in , procession or any public gathering until October 18.

As per notification, the restrictions have been enforced in view of potential terror threats and law and order concerns, the order prohibits the assembly of four or more people in public places, as well as the display of weapons across Punjab. 

The use of loudspeakers has also been banned under Section 144, except for Azan and Friday sermons, while the publication or distribution of inflammatory, hate-based, or sectarian material has been strictly prohibited. A spokesperson for the government stated that the decision has been taken to maintain public peace, protect lives and property, and prevent any possible exploitation of public gatherings by anti-state or extremist elements.

The notification clarified that the ban does not apply to wedding ceremonies, funerals, or burial activities, and that government officers and officials on duty are exempt from the restrictions.Authorities have also directed that mass awareness campaigns be launched to inform the public about the enforcement of Section 144 throughout the province.

Security officials warned that in the prevailing situation, public rallies and sit-ins could serve as soft targets for terrorists, while miscreants may exploit demonstrations to further their nefarious designs.The government has urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and avoid participating in unauthorised gatherings to ensure peace and security across Punjab.
