Punjab govt officially handed over Waris Shah’ shrine to Auqaf dept

SHEIKHUPURA: Punjab government has officially handed over the management and administration of the shrine of Hazrat Pir Waris Shah (RA) to the Auqaf Department to ensure more effective governance.

Following the provincial government’s decision, the Secretary of Auqaf issued formal orders, directing the Zonal Administrator of Auqaf Lahore (East) to take over the shrine’s administration.

The decision was made considering the shrine’s cultural significance, its role in promoting spiritual tourism, and the need for financial and administrative oversight.

Pir Waris Shah was a revered Sufi poet and played a significant role in the development and promotion of the Punjabi language.

Previously, the administrative control of the shrine was under the Waris Shah Memorial Society, but it has now been transferred to the Auqaf Department for better management.
