Punjab Initiates comprehensive mechanization program to enhance farming efficiency

LAHORE: In a significant move to modernize agriculture, Punjab has rolled out a large-scale mechanization initiative aimed at empowering farmers with advanced technology. Over 20,000 eco-friendly tractors have already been distributed, with plans to provide an additional 10,000 in the upcoming phase.

Under the flagship CM High-Tech Mechanisation Financing Scheme, farmers can now access modern equipment such as rice and wheat harvesters, high-capacity tractors, and other agricultural machinery through affordable loan facilities. The program allocates Rs30 billion to support farmers and service providers in acquiring these tools.

Furthermore, around 5,000 state-of-the-art rice seeders, valued at Rs4 billion, have been distributed to foster higher crop productivity. Officials highlight that these technological upgrades are expected to play a crucial role in reducing crop residue burning, a primary cause of regional smog.

Chief Minister Maryam emphasized that embracing mechanization is vital for shifting towards innovative farming practices. She stated that adopting modern machinery can lower production costs and significantly boost yields per acre. The CM urged farmers to abandon traditional methods in favor of new technologies to ensure sustainable growth and improved livelihoods in the agriculture sector.
