LAHORE: The Punjab government has announced that Basant celebrations will now extend beyond rooftops to include public parks and open spaces throughout the province.
Officials confirmed that kite flying will be allowed in these designated areas under strictly enforced Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Lahore’s public parks are set to join in the vibrant festivities of Basant 2026, adding a new dimension to the traditional event.
Raja Mansoor, Director General of the Punjab Horticulture Authority, highlighted that the festival has moved beyond the confines of rooftops, with conditional approval granted for celebrations in parks.
Authorities emphasized that strict adherence to SOPs is mandatory to ensure public safety. This initiative aims to provide a safer, more inclusive environment for citizens to enjoy Basant while expanding its festive spirit to wider community spaces.
