Punjab slashes public transport fares following a drop in fuel prices

LAHORE: Public transport fares have been reduced across Punjab following a recent decline in petrol and diesel prices, bringing much-needed relief to commuters traveling between cities, as reported on Thursday.

The Punjab Transport Department has implemented a revised fare structure for inter-district and intercity buses, with reductions ranging from Rs 60 to Rs 200 on various routes starting from Lahore.

As per the updated tariffs, the fare for a bus journey from Lahore to Islamabad has been lowered from Rs 1,910 to Rs 1,850. Passengers traveling to Murree will now pay Rs 2,290 instead of Rs 2,370. Similarly, the cost of traveling to Peshawar has been reduced from Rs 2,610 to Rs 2,530, and to Mansehra from Rs 2,500 to Rs 2,420. Those heading to Abbottabad will now pay Rs 2,240 instead of the previous Rs 2,310.

Shorter routes have also seen price reductions. The fare for a trip from Lahore to Faisalabad has dropped from Rs 1,010 to Rs 980, while travel to Sadiqabad now costs Rs 2,430 compared to Rs 2,510. Meanwhile, long-distance passengers traveling to Karachi will experience reduced fares, with a decrease from Rs 5,800 to Rs 5,620.

Transport authorities stated that the new fares have been aligned with the recent dip in fuel prices and aim to alleviate financial pressures on passengers. Bus operators have been instructed to enforce the revised rates immediately.
