Punjab to present this financial year Rs 5.3 trillion budget today

LAHORE: The Punjab government will present upcoming fiscal year 2025-2026 Rs 5.3 trillion budget today.

Punjab Assembly budget session will be held today in the chair of Speaker Muhammad Ahmed Khan.

Following a provincial cabinet meeting, Punjab’s Finance Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman will present the budget in the Punjab Assembly promising a comprehensive plan aimed at inclusive development and public welfare.

The Finance Minister emphasized that the upcoming fiscal plan will align with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s developmental priorities and focus on maximizing resource utilization without introducing new taxes. Instead, efforts will be concentrated on improving tax collection efficiency for existing levies.

Addressing the media, Shujaur Rehman outlined that the budget will prioritize social sectors such as education, healthcare, and social safety nets, continuing successful initiatives under the chief minister’s leadership.

He assured that the budget would cater to all societal segments, including women, children, persons with disabilities, and laborers, ensuring their welfare and protection.

Support for small and medium-sized enterprises remains a key component, with plans to offer enhanced technical and financial assistance, he added.

He said that, additionally, the government intends to bolster the Kisan Card scheme to better support farmers and agricultural communities.

The finance minister highlighted that the budget would be rooted in principles of economic development, transparency, and social justice, with a special focus on uplifting underdeveloped districts, especially in South Punjab.

Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to creating a people-centric budget that promotes growth and leaves no one behind.
