LAHORE: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced that an additional 1,100 electric buses are expected to arrive in Punjab by December this year, aiming to enhance the province’s public transportation system with affordable and eco-friendly options.
Speaking at the launch of the Electric Bus Service in Pakpattan, she highlighted the growing demand for electric transport solutions across the region. She emphasized that these buses are equipped with state-of-the-art amenities, offering a cost-effective fare of just 20 rupees for complete routes. Moreover, students, women, senior citizens, and individuals with disabilities can travel free of charge.
Maryam Nawaz also emphasized the focus on women’s safety, revealing that women passengers will have dedicated compartments onboard these buses. To ensure security, these sections will be monitored via CCTV cameras, aiming to prevent any untoward incidents.
She further expressed confidence that the expansion of electric bus services will contribute significantly to modernizing Punjab’s transport infrastructure while promoting environmentally sustainable travel options.
