LAHORE: Punjab’s flagship housing initiative, ‘Apni Chat, Apna Ghar’, has crossed the milestone of 1.9 million registered participants, officials from the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA) confirmed. To date, the programme has received more than 1.135 million applications.
During a briefing with Minister Bilal Yasin, PHATA Director General Skandar Zeeshan shared updates on the scheme’s progress. So far, interest-free loans have been provided to 131,680 beneficiaries for constructing homes, with an additional 18,375 individuals expected to receive assistance this month.
Across Punjab, 83,330 houses have been completed while another 45,425 are under construction. The scheme has seen an allocation exceeding Rs183 billion, with Rs8.4 billion recovered so far.
Minister Yasin emphasized that the initiative has set new standards in service delivery and efficiency. Under the “Apni Chat, Apna Ghar” scheme, 2,000 families have already been awarded free plots. Ownership rights for deserving families are expected to be granted by the Chief Minister after Eid-ul-Fitr.
In 2024, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced an ambitious plan to construct 100,000 homes for low-income citizens. In a meeting held today in Lahore regarding the project, she instructed officials to formulate a detailed implementation strategy. The plan includes building over 3,000 houses for low-income families in each district of the province.
