KARACHI: Shahrah-e-Faisal Police have registered a case against Pakistan Railways Police personnel over allegations that they abducted and tortured a Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) city warden.
The complaint was filed by KMC City Wardens Director Saim Imran. He alleged that railway police officers assaulted him and took him to an undisclosed location during a dispute over roadworks and traffic control near Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
According to the FIR, repairs have been under way for four months on the road between Natha Khan Bridge and Pehlwan Goth, near Chakor Nullah. Imran said he was managing traffic at the site when Railway Police SHO Ahsan Rashid arrived with other personnel. He alleged they beat him, forced him into a police vehicle, tied him up and tortured him. The FIR further alleges that officers pressured him to hold their feet and lick their shoes; after he refused, he was beaten until he lost consciousness. Imran said he later woke up at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Sources said police had been instructed to seek approval from senior officials before taking further action.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab condemned the alleged treatment of the KMC official and said legal proceedings were under way. He assured city employees of his support, saying no one would be allowed to mistreat them.
In a separate development, Railway Police have also registered a case against KMC personnel, including Imran. That FIR reportedly cites attempted murder, terrorism, obstruction of official duties, encroachment on railway land and death threats.
