Rain/snow-hit areas: COAS directs Army to assist NDMA, local administrations in rescue operations

RAWALPINDI: Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Sunday directed Pakistan Army to assist the local administrations and rescuers in relief and rescue operation in areas hit by heavy snowfall and rains.

According to Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistan Army’s rescue and relief operation was underway in rains/snow hit areas.

It added that all the 108 people stranded in Chaghi were rescued. The FC assisted Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) overnight to rescue all 108 stranded travelers and shifted to Noshki.

ISPR said that in village Sher Shal, Garam Chashma, Chitral FC troops were assisting Civil Administration and NDMA for rescue of individuals who came under snow slide last night. So far 7 dead bodies have been recovered while two injured were taken out.

An FC soldier Irshad embraced shahdat and six got injured when a Chitral scout post came under slide in Pishotan, Kandao, Arandu. Soldiers have been rescued early morning. Subject to weather clearance Army helicopter will supply relief items and expedite relief operations.

The COAS directed maximum assistance to NDMA, PDMA and local administrations for timely and effective rescue/relief effort in snow hit areas.
