KARACHI: An Additional District and Sessions Court extended the interim bail of prominent YouTuber Rajab Butt until March 30 in a case involving allegations of desecrating Islamic symbols.
The hearing took place at the Karachi Central Sessions Court, where the accused’s plea for continued bail was addressed.
The Additional District and Sessions Judge (Central) granted the defence’s adjournment request, allowing an extension of Rajab Butt’s interim bail. The YouTuber, currently out on interim bail, was present during the proceedings.
During the session, the complainant’s counsel contended that the court convened at 8:30 am but the accused arrived an hour later at 9:30 am, urging the court to revoke his bail. The lawyer further emphasized their readiness to present evidence, highlighting the absence of the defence counsel.
A junior lawyer informed the court that Rajab Butt’s counsel, Mian Ali Ashfaq, was unable to attend due to being on official leave. However, the court noted that this was not the first instance of the defence counsel’s nonappearance and instructed that a formal application on such absences be submitted.
Following these developments, the court accepted the adjournment plea and extended the interim bail until March 30.
The case against Rajab Butt, initially lodged at Hyderi Market Police Station, had earlier led to him securing an interim bail from the court.
