Rangers played historic role for restoring peace in Karachi: Ch Nisar

KARACHI: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Saturday said that Rangers played important role in bringing peace to Karachi and other parts of the country.

He was addressing the 24th passing out parade ceremony of Pakistan Rangers Sindh in Karachi on Saturday morning as chief guest.

Nisar said that during the last three and half years Rangers set a new history by successfully accomplishing a very difficult task. He lauded the role of former DGs Rizwan Akhtar and Bial Akbar, saying that they provided new leadership and polices to the force.

The minister said that Rangers and intelligence agencies played historic role in the ongoing Karachi operation, adding that agencies also played important role in eliminating extortion from the port city.

Declaring Karachi’s peace crucial, Nisar said that if peace was restored in Karachi the nefarious designs of the enemy would shatter.

Lashing out at MQM founder Altaf Hussain without naming him, the minister said that one man had made the whole city hostage and on his one call the whole city was shut down and rioting was started.

Nisar also urged Sindh government not to create controversy over Rangers’s powers after every three months. He added that the paramilitary force was taking actions for restoring peace in the financial hub of the country. The minister said that budget of the force had been raised from Rs7bn to Rs12 bn.

Some seven hundred and eighty-two Jawans have passed out after completing their training course.
