Reckless teenage driver runs over two women in Islamabad while snapchatting, throws Phone before detention

ISLAMABAD: A 16-year-old boy driving a white SUV caused a tragic accident at Secretariat Chowk opposite the metro station on Monday night, striking and killing two women riding a scooter.

According to police reports, the driver was recording a video for Snapchat at the time of the crash. The victims, Samreen, 25, and Tabbinda, 27, who worked part-time for an events management company at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts, were on a scooter that was completely destroyed upon impact.

The suspect, identified as Muhammad Abuzar Reki, son of Muhammad Asif who is reportedly associated with a prominent position at the Islamabad High Court, was detained and presented before the Islamabad District Court on Tuesday. Judicial Magistrate Shaista Kundi approved a four-day physical remand and handed him over to police custody. According to the remand documents, his address is listed as Spinny Road, Quetta, Balochistan.

Police reports indicate that Abuzar was driving at a high speed when he collided with the scooter, causing both women to fall with critical injuries. They later succumbed to their wounds. During interrogation, Abuzar admitted to recording a Snapchat video moments before the collision and to discarding his phone immediately afterward. Authorities are currently working to recover the device to review the footage from the incident.

The case raises questions about the suspect’s age and legal standing. Although he does not hold a driver’s license, his National Identity Card confirms he is 16 years old. Investigators are also analyzing CCTV footage from the area and are determining whether Abuzar was alone or had passengers in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
