Islamabad: Pakistan reported the highest number of deaths in a day since the coronavirus emerged in the country last year as 201 people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours.

According to National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) the record numbers of cases of the lethal virus have increased in the third wave the global pandemic due to which capacity of the hospitals to treat the such patients are becoming overwhelmed while the patients on ventilators and oxygen have also exceeded.

As many as 6,286 patients of coronavirus have been hospitalized in the 632 hospitals of the country. While 75 percent of ventilators are in use in Lahore, Multan 73, Gunjranwala 53.
As per the NCOC the spread of the virus continued in Punjab and KP speedily. 201 people lost their lives including 84 on ventilators in the last 24 hours while the highest 127 deaths reported in Punjab, 45 in KP, 19 in Sindh, five in Islamabad, only in Balochistan, four in AJK.
NCOC apprised that over 49, 101 tests of the people conducted in the last 24 hours out of which 5, 292 were positive. The number of active cases of Covid- 19 is 88, 207. While the coronavirus rates of positivity is 10. 77.
According to the government statistics as many as 4678 patients recovered from the coronavirus in the last 24 hours after which the number of recovered people reached 7, 04, 494.
