Relief to masses in electricity bills can’t be given without permission of IMF: Cabinet

Islamabad: The federal cabinet meeting held in the chair of caretaker Prime Minister Anwar Ul Haq Kakar could not decide any relief to be given to masses despite countrywide protest by the people of the country.

Sources said that the federal cabinet said that the decision for providing relief to masses can only be granted after seeing the International Monetary Fundh (IMF) condition on which they had approved 3 billion dollar loan to Pakistan in previous month of July.

Lowering of taxation in the electricity bills can’t be done with taking the IMF on board, sources added.

Sources furthered that the relaxation in the conditions of the IMF or relief can be given with its permission.

The meeting deliberated upon the country’s economic situation, people protest on electricity bills and formula of power division.

Sources said that the IMF be approached on recommdendation given by the energy ministry. The cabinet also could not take decision to stop free electricity to officers of the government.

Ministry of Finance has expressed its helplessness and any releif can only be given on approval of the IMF.
In the federal cabinent meeting suggestion were presented to provide relief to massses on slab wise.
