Web Desk: The 39th death anniversary of renowned Pakistani comedian and actor Rafi Khawar, popularly known as Nanha, is being observed on Monday.
He was born in 1942 in Sahiwal, Punjab, Pakistan.
Nanna started his career from Radio Pakistan Lahore’s comedy program `Dum baaz dum saaz’ in 1964.
Later, he started his film career in 1966 featuring in the Urdu film `Watan ka Sipahi.’
Rafi Khawar rose to fame in the 1970s and 1980s with his iconic performances in television dramas and films.
Nanha got a breakthrough from film “Noukar” in 1976.
His pairing with fellow comedian Ali Ejaz was popular since film “Insaniyat” (1967 film). Ali Ejaz and Nanha, as popular pair of comedians, were seen together in more than 50 films.
Rafi Khawar was a familiar face, well-known and loved by all.
He played a lead role in the film ‘Tehka Pehlwan’ in 1979, and in the same year his film ‘Dubai Chalo’ went well at the box office.
His role in the classic TV show Alif Noon, alongside Kamal Ahmed Rizvi (Allan), made him a household name and cemented his place as one of Pakistan’s most beloved comic actors.
Known for his innocent humor, expressive face and impeccable timing, Nanha appeared in dozens of films, including Naukar Wohti Da, Dil Aur Duniya, and Sargent.
He got two Nigar Awards for Best Supporting Actor and Best Comedian in 1977 and 1983.
He died on this day in Lahore in 1986.His services to the film industry and TV would always be remembered.
