Renowned Kashmiri Politician Abdul Ghani Bhat Passes Away

BARAMULLAH: Prof. Abdul Ghani Bhat, a distinguished leader in Kashmir’s political and independence movements, passed away on Wednesday evening at his home in Sopore, North Kashmir.

Family sources confirmed that Bhat, who lived in Botingoo, Baramulla district, died after a brief illness. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced by his family.

Bhat played a significant role in shaping Kashmir’s political history. He was a co-founder of the Muslim United Front (MUF) in 1986 and later served as the chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), a coalition of Kashmiri groups established in 1993. Additionally, he held the position of president of the Muslim Conference Jammu and Kashmir (MCJK), an organization that has been banned by the Indian authorities.

Throughout his life, Bhat remained committed to the cause of self-determination for Kashmir. His visionary leadership, courageous stance, and political acumen made him a guiding light for the Kashmiri people. His passing marks a profound loss not only for Kashmir but also for the broader movement for freedom and independence.
