Report details police losses, damage from TLP protests since 2016

LAHORE: Punjab police have disclosed figures related to casualties and destruction caused by Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) protests over the past nine years. The official report states that 11 police officers have been killed and 1,648 injured during various violent demonstrations from 2016 through 2025.

Among those hurt, 69 officers have been permanently disabled, 202 sustained serious injuries, and 1,194 suffered minor wounds. The report also notes that 16 civilians lost their lives, with 54 others wounded in clashes with protesters.

The violence resulted in the destruction of 97 police vehicles, with two set ablaze, and significant damage to 10 police stations. Authorities registered 305 cases under anti-terrorism laws and 480 cases under other criminal statutes against TLP protesters. In recent incidents alone, 1,529 individuals have been identified, while over 17,800 unidentified persons have been booked for their involvement in violence.

Protesters have been reported to hurl stones and fire upon police officers during demonstrations. Earlier today, the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, approved stringent measures to reinforce law and order across the province.

A high-level law and order meeting, chaired by the Chief Minister, decided to recommend to the federal government to ban the extremist organization. The plan includes immediate arrests of individuals involved in hate speech, incitement, and lawless activities. Those responsible for police martyrdom and damage to public property will face trials in anti-terror courts (ATCs).
