WEB DESK: A data leak has exposed usernames, passwords, and personal details of nearly 149 million users across Gmail, Facebook, Instagram, Netflix, TikTok, Binance, and OnlyFans, experts report.
Researcher Jeremiah Fowler found the 96GB unsecured database online, containing 48 million Gmail accounts, 17 million Facebook accounts, 6.5 million Instagram accounts, and millions more from various platforms. The data was likely compiled using infostealing malware that collects credentials and saved browser data.
Experts warn such leaks heighten risks of account takeovers, financial fraud, and phishing, especially for users reusing passwords. Unlike single-source breaches, this leak stemmed from aggregated data, complicating its origin. The database was removed after Fowler alerted the Canadian hosting provider.
Digital Rights Monitor emphasized the risks of poor security practices and advised using strong, unique passwords and enabling two-factor authentication.
